  • Paralog: OTOA (otoancorin) — shares structural similarity

Context (2026-03-21)

Egor is experimenting with a protein visualization app (screenshot showed cytochrome C at 105 aa as test protein). Goal: replace test protein with STRC (Q7RTU9, 1809 aa) to visualize stereocilin structure.

Connects directly to computational analysis work at strc.egor.lol — making STRC structure accessible to researchers and families visually.

Why 1809 aa Matters for Gene Therapy

STRC is a very large protein — 1809 residues. This matters for:

  • Gene therapy vector sizing: STRC cDNA ~5.4 kb, too large for single AAV at full length
  • Mini-STRC hypothesis: N-terminus is dispensable, truncated version fits single vector
  • Visualization reveals which domains are likely dispensable vs essential
  • AlphaFold3 structure predictions (20 jobs completed as of 2026-03-20)
  • SignalP, NetGPI, DeepLoc, NetNGlyc, IUPred3, ESMFold, conservation analysis — all completed
  • Full suite validated and presented at strc.egor.lol
