Context (2026-03-21)
Egor is experimenting with a protein visualization app (screenshot showed cytochrome C at 105 aa as test protein). Goal: replace test protein with STRC (Q7RTU9, 1809 aa) to visualize stereocilin structure.
Connects directly to computational analysis work at strc.egor.lol — making STRC structure accessible to researchers and families visually.
Why 1809 aa Matters for Gene Therapy
STRC is a very large protein — 1809 residues. This matters for:
- Gene therapy vector sizing: STRC cDNA ~5.4 kb, too large for single AAV at full length
- Mini-STRC hypothesis: N-terminus is dispensable, truncated version fits single vector
- Visualization reveals which domains are likely dispensable vs essential
