OrthoDB
Hierarchical catalog of orthologs. Provides evolutionary relationships and conservation analysis across species.
What It Does
- Ortholog clusters across 2,000+ species
- Conservation metrics per gene position
- Evolutionary rate analysis
- Functional annotations of ortholog groups
- Phylogenetic profiles
How to Use
Web
- Go to https://www.orthodb.org
- Search: “STRC” or “stereocilin”
- View ortholog tree and conservation
API
curl "https://data.orthodb.org/v11/search?query=STRC&species=9606"Verified Status
VERIFIED — STRC orthologs found: 10 ortholog groups from eukaryotes to mammals. Group 5317557at2759 = ‘Stereocilin’. API: curl 'https://data.orthodb.org/v11/search?query=STRC&species=9606'. Extends our 9-species conservation analysis with broader evolutionary context.
Results (April 2026)
- Extended conservation DONE: E1659 is 100% conserved (Glu) across 40 mammalian species from OrthoDB (pairwise alignment verified). This extends the original 9-species analysis dramatically.
- 202 ortholog sequences retrieved from group 16757at40674
- WARNING: raw OrthoDB sequences are UNALIGNED — must align before checking positional conservation. Naive position-based check gives wrong results.
- Still untapped: domain-specific conservation analysis, STRCP1 pseudogene evolution timing
